New STLE White Paper Shares the Latest Advancements and Challenges Impacting Electric Vehicles

STLE examines the current and future state of e-mobility and technologies that impact the tribology and lubrication engineering field

PARK RIDGE, Illinois, USA (June 4, 2024) – The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) — the premier technical society serving the needs of the tribology and lubrication engineering business sector — is pleased to announce the release of its new digital white paper, Tribology and Lubrication for E-Mobility: Findings from the Third STLE Conference on Electric Vehicles.

STLE developed the 54-page white paper to capture and share findings from its Third Tribology & Lubrication for E-Mobility Conference in late 2023. The two-day event in Cleveland, Ohio, included technical presentations, networking and panel discussions exploring the rapidly changing electric vehicle (EV) technologies.

Dr. Neil Canter, CMFS, Chemical Solutions, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and STLE technical advisor, prepared the white paper in collaboration with the 2023 STLE EV Conference Planning Committee. The white paper summarizes key findings and challenges discussed at the conference. The synopsis addresses the following topics: commercial EVs, fluids, esters, foaming, grease, coatings, modeling, material compatibility and testing.

According to Canter, “STLE’s third conference on e-mobility demonstrated how the tribology and lubrication field is taking on the challenge of developing products that meet the requirements for operating EVs. This white paper discusses the development and evaluation of lubricants and greases for use in EVs. STLE will continue to bring the tribology and lubrication community together by offering future opportunities for engagement on this topic. The 2024 STLE Tribology & Lubrication for E-Mobility Conference is scheduled to be held October 22-25 in Detroit, Mich. STLE invites all interested parties to attend and continue to present updates on EV tribology.”

This digital white paper is now available to STLE members (complimentary) and non-members ($10). To download the white paper, click here, visit www.stle.org or call (847) 825-5536.

STLE is continuing to encourage discussions on EV fluids and greases by presenting the 2024 STLE Tribology & Lubrication for E-Mobility Conference, to be held October 22-25 at the Detroit Marriott at Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan. The e-mobility conference offers industry professionals the opportunity to attend educational sessions and networking discussions with leading experts and companies with an interest in e-mobility. Attendees learn about the latest state-of-the-art developments in electric vehicle technologies and lubrication. For more information, click here.
